Mission outline

8 missions and 16 tasks, shown as players read them. Answer keys stay in the builder.

  1. Mission 1

    Leaf Detectives

Look for two different leaf shapes without picking them. Compare edges, size, and texture with your teammates.

    • PhotoPhotograph two different leaves still on their plants, or two fallen leaves without moving them.
    • Multiple choiceWhat do leaves help most plants capture?
  2. Mission 2

    Flower Visitors

Watch a flower quietly for a moment. Keep your distance from insects. A flower with no visitors is still a useful observation.

    • PhotoPhotograph a flower or a patch where flowering plants could grow. Include an insect only if you can do so without disturbing it.
    • Multiple choiceHow can insects help flowering plants reproduce?
  3. Mission 3

    Bird Watch

Pause and listen. Look from the path without approaching nests. Discuss whether you heard a bird, saw one, or found neither.

    • PhotoPhotograph a bird from a distance or a tree or shrub that could provide shelter for birds.
    • Multiple choiceWhat should you do if you spot a bird's nest?
  4. Mission 4

    Tiny Neighbors

Look at the ground or a plant for small animals. Do not turn over logs, capture creatures, or touch unknown animals.

    • PhotoPhotograph a small animal from a distance or a sheltered place where one might live.
    • Multiple choiceWhich of these animals has six legs as an adult?
  5. Mission 5

    Decomposer Corner

Find fallen leaves or decaying wood visible from the path. Observe without touching fungi or moving the material.

    • PhotoPhotograph fallen leaves or dead wood that could provide a home for decomposers.
    • Multiple choiceWhat do decomposers help return to the environment?
  6. Mission 6

    Microhabitat Match

Compare a sunny patch and a shaded patch. Think about how moisture and temperature may differ without leaving the safe route.

    • PhotoPhotograph the boundary between sun and shade, or two nearby places with different shelter.
    • Multiple choiceWhat is a microhabitat?
  7. Mission 7

    Signs of Life

Look for clues such as a web, a nibbled leaf, or a track. Do not touch droppings. A clue suggests a visitor; it may not identify the exact species.

    • PhotoPhotograph a sign of animal activity, or a place where you would look for one.
    • Multiple choiceWhat does a nibbled leaf tell you most directly?
  8. Mission 8

    Make Room for Nature

Review your observations. Each teammate names one living thing or habitat feature they noticed and one way people could protect it.

    • PhotoPhotograph a feature worth protecting, such as native plants, shelter, or an undisturbed patch of soil.
    • Multiple choiceWhat does biodiversity describe?
